Christmas Party

Today was such a fun day because we had our class Christmas party. We played lots of games, made some crafts and had yummy snacks. We all got a new book to read from the book exchange. At the end, Miss Dowd played some super funny JibJab videos staring us.  

A big Thank You to all our Fantastic Volunteers and to everyone who brought in treats.  All your help made for a very successful party and a bunch of happy kids!

Gingerbread Drama

This month, we have been reading many different versions of the story The Gingerbread Man.  We thought it would be fun if we could bring the story to life. We all took turns acting out different characters in the story.  We even got to use masks and run around the room. It was lots of fun! Take a look at our fantastic acting!

Making Gingerbread Cookies

Today we made gingerbread cookies.  We got to go to the staff room with a special MOM helper. We rolled out the dough and put on lots of candy.  When the cookies were all done baking, we went to get then out of the oven.  When we got there we discovered that the cookies were missing and in their place was a note.  We followed the clues to find the missing cookies. We had to run all over the school.  Finally we found them safe and sound in our classroom!

La Posada

Today was a silly day. Miss Dowd gave us mustaches to wear when we practiced our Winter Concert Songs.  Now we really look like we are in Mexico!!

After practicing our winter concert songs for the last time before the big show, we made pinatas to celebrate La Posada.  We colored a donkey picture and then glued it onto a paper bag.  We added streamers to make it look real.  After we went to Mrs. L's candy store and picked out candy for our pinatas. The final step was to put a string on it so we could hang them up when we got home.

I Spy Trees

Today we got to play I Spy on the SmartBoard with Miss Sawrenko.  We had to count different decorations on a Christmas tree and then record the answers. Then we got to make our own trees and put our own decorations on to count. It was lots of fun!

Space Day

Today was Space Day!  We had so much fun. We had Astronaut training, got to dress up like astronauts, and went on a space walk.  We finished the day by making a yummy alien ship snack.

Building Rockets

We have been collecting lots of different boxes and tubes and brought them to school. We go to use all the stuff to make our own rockets. Before we started to build, we came up with some criteria that we had to follow.

1. It must look like a rocket.

2. It must have 5 decorations.

3. It has to stay together.

Edelaine - I made fire on the bottom of my rocket.

Ajay - I liked making the rocket because I got to put so much stuff together.

Ryan - My rocket has two wings and some blasters at the bottom.

Alex - I liked making the jets on the rocket.

Aiden - You could grab parts and a big tube to make a rocket ship.  I needed a bottle and a juice box. It was awesome!

Natalie - It was fun making the windows.

Braedan - I know how to build rockets because  I have seen real rockets before on Lego videos.

Wyatt - We go tot put 5 decorations on the rockets

Jaydon - I like building rockets so I can play with it with my friends.

Liam - It was pretty cool.

Frances - I liked to draw the fire.

Blake - I liked when my rocket blasted off.

Oliver - My rocket can have 9 cats in it like the video game.

Kallan - It was so much fun!!

Eirrah - I liked helping my friends build their rockets when I was finished.

Starry Starry Night

We read a book about Vincent van Gogh's life.  We learned that he copied a lot of paintings to learn how to paint before he started to paint his own.  We copied his painting Starry Starry Night. 

Starry Starry Night

First we made a horizon line and made swirls in the sky. We made lots of little lines like van Gogh did.

 We drew a yellow moon and 11 stars. We made the moon and stars twinkle.

Then we drew two big cypress trees and five houses. 

 We really took our time.

We painted blue paint over the whole picture.

We are real artists!
