- You will receive a monthly calendar that has visual reminders (pictures clues) for you and your child to help remind you of gym, library, music, buddy days as well as special days.
- Your child will receive a Mail Folder. This folder is a way for parents and teachers to send notes/messages/forms to and from school. Please ensure that this folder is in your child’s backpack each day.
- The Remind app will be used to text message parents about special events and reminders that are just for the kindergarten class. Text the number (204) 480-2589 with the message “@msdowdam” or “@msdowdpm”
Social Media
- We will be using Instagram to share our learning. Follow us at @msdowdskam or @msdowdskpm You will be able to see our Instagram posts on the right side of our class blog.
Attendance
- It is important to stress regular attendance so positive attitudes toward school can be established early. Arriving at school on time for class is also important. If your child needs to accompany you to appointments or to shop, please plan these activities before or after school. Absences cause a break in the planned program and adjustments must be made after returning to school.
- Please notify the school when your child is absent. If the school does not receive a phone call, someone from the office will call to check on the safety of your child. Your notification helps greatly in reducing the number of phone calls.

- Please make sure your child and the teacher know who is picking them up each day and how they are to go home. Please send a note in the Mail Folder or e-mail me at edowd@sjsd.net if a different person will be picking them up.
Clothing
- Please label all coats, jackets, boots and runners. Play clothes are encouraged! Remember we paint, paste and play everyday! Everyone knows that accidents happen. Please leave an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack.
Birthdays
- Everyone in kindergarten loves celebrating birthdays. As a class, we are going to create our own special birthday traditions. For this reason, I am asking parents not to send in birthday treats on your child’s birthday. We will have a huge Birthday celebration at the end of the year (with treats) to celebration everyone’s birthday together.
Recess and Snacks
- The kindergarten students will be going out for recess with the rest of the school. Your child will most likely wish to have a recess snack. Children can choose to have their snack during choice time in the classroom or they may wish to take their snack outside at recess. Healthy snacks are preferred. (Fruits, veggies, crackers, or other peanut free snacks.) Please do not send candy or other sugary snacks.
Toys
- Please ensure that your child does not bring any of their personal toys to school. All home toys are to be left at home unless otherwise notified. The kindergarten classroom has a wide assortment of stimulating materials for your child to learn and play with.
Contributions
- The kindergartens are always looking for contributions to the art center and for special projects. (Yarn, ribbon, fabric scraps, buttons, magazines, catalogues, milk jug lids, egg cartons, margarine and yogurt containers, etc…)
