100 DAY!!!

Today was the 100th day of kindergarten.  We have been waiting a long time for this to come. The kids were promised a party when we got to 100 days, so we had a party!!!  To start the day we finally got to colour in the 100 on our 100 chart!  Then we practised making groups of ten on the Smartboard.  We know that when we put 10 groups of 10 together we get 100!

After group time, we did our 100 day "party" centres."  It's not a party without a party hat, so everyone got to stamp 100 stamps onto a big 100.  Then we cut out the 100 and stapled it onto a crown.  We looked GREAT!

We also go to work together to build a castle with 100 cups.  It was hard work, and sometimes it was frustrating when the cups fell down.  But we tried again and didn't get too upset.

At the final centre we also had to work with a friend.  There were four different pictures on the floor.  A big mitten where you had to put in 100 animals, a monster where you had to give it 100 spots, a big face where you had to feed it 100 pieces of food and finally a big pink t-shirt that you had to decorate with 100 hearts.  We used paper plates around the pictures so it was easier for us to count out 100 objects.  Remember 10 groups of 10 makes 100!

We played a party game where you had to write the numbers 10 -100 by tens on a balloon.  Then you had to hit it back and forth with a  partner 100 times.  The kids really had fun with this one.

And of course the snack.  You have to have a snack at a party.  We made the numeral 100 out of cookies.  100s sure do taste good.

Valentine's Day!

To get ready for Valentine's Day we made special valentine's holders.  Ms. Dowd stapled a half plate to a full plate.  Then we had to use five different kinds of paper to decorate them and make them super pretty for Valentine's Day.

We also took a vote as to which heart craft we were going to make at our party.  Here are the results.  The Morning class wanted to make the heart owl and the Afternoon students wanted to make the heart dog.

Today you could feel the excitement in the air!  Everyone was so excited to give and get lots of Valentines from their friends.  We started the day with doing some Valentine activities on the SmartBoard.  We also read some Valentine stories to get in the spirit.

After we started our Valentines centres.  At Mrs. L's table we played Valen-TEEN number bingo.  We are working on learning our teen numbers and learning is always more fun when you get to eat candy hearts at the end.

At the second centre the students got to make their heart animal.  All the owls and dogs turned out super cute.

The last centre was delivering our valentine cards to our friends.  This was a super busy centre.  Everyone worked really hard at reading their friends names.  

To finish off  the party we all enjoyed some super yummy snacks!  Thank you so much to all the parents who brought in snacks.

We Made PAPER!

We have been learning about all kinds of paper.  We know that paper comes from trees, but we can also make paper that comes from recycled paper.  We learned how to make our own recycled paper that we turned into special valentine cards for our loves ones.

We also have been learning how to use an app called Pic Collage on our class iPads.  Ms. Dowd took lots of pictures of us making paper. Then we decided which pictures we wanted on each page. We numbered the pictures so it would be easy for someone else to learn how to make paper.  Then as a class we explained what was happening in each picture.

When I am 100...

We are getting so exciting about the 100th day of school.  We have 6 more days until we have our 100 day party.  Today we used the app Aging Booth on the iPad to speed up the clock and make us look like we were 100 years old.  We thought it was super funny how we had so many wrinkles.  We also brainstormed what we would do when we were 100 years old.

I will sleep all day.

I will walk with a cane.

I will sit down and knit.

I will be a Dad.  I will have 7 kids.

I will eat soft food.

I will snore very loud.

I will have lots of kids.

I will make cookies.
