Welcoming the new VIP Kinders Red Carpet Style!

The red carpet has been rolled out in honour of the newest VIP members of Linwood School. This years Kinders will walk the red carpet to begin their kindergarten journey.  Here is a preview of what is up and coming.

An Un-Birthday Celebration!

It's hard to believe that the year is just almost over.  We had so much fun learning, laughing and playing together.  One thing we have not done yet is celebrate everyone's birthday.  Instead of having lots of little celebrations, we had one GIANT un-Birthday Party!!!  We invited our families to join us in playing games, signing t-shirts, painting, eating, opening presents and celebrating our birthdays.  It was wonderful to see everyone laughing and playing together.  What a great way to end such an exciting year of learning!!

Kinder Van Gogh

This year, we have really developed a love of art! We love sculpting, sketching, colour mixing, photography, collage and of course painting. For our last big collobrative project, we re-created a still life painting by Vincent Van Gogh.

                     

Before we started to paint, we studied the painting and looked closely at the colours.  The morning class painted the red chrysanthemums and the afternoons painted the yellow ones.

                

                       

Once the flowers had dried, we cut them out and placed them on big mural paper.  Usually the background would get painted first, but with Ms. Dowd's broken foot, we had to improvise a little.

After Ms. Dowd glued down the flowers, we started painting the background. We looked at Van Gogh's original painting and tried to make it look at close as possible.  

                                       

            

                                          

Pet Store - Open For Business

After return from our field trip to Petland, we decided that we needed to have a Pet Store in our classroom too.  We had been designing and building pet homes during discovery, so we were ready to take on the challenge of working with a partner to build a Pet home for the Pet Store.

When we were at PetLand, we learned that every animal home needs to have three important things: Food, water and toys. We carefully worked together to make sure our Pet home was safe for the animals as well as the people in the store.

To make sure everyone knew about our Pet Store, Vet Clinic and Groomer, we made some posters and hung them up in the hallway.

  

                           

Once all the animals were in their homes, we took our places and were Open For Business!!

Stop Motion Number Stories

This week we created our own stop motion videos as a fun way show what we know about math and numbers.  Creating a stop motion video is SUPER easy!  If you can take a picture, then you can create a stop motion video!!

We used an app called Stop Motion on the iPad.  We set up the iPad on some blocks (so it wouldn't move) and then we slowly began to move each object into the frame of the camera.  As we moved each object a little at a time, we took a picture. After carefully placing and moving each object, we pressed play to watch our animal number story come to life!!
