The Linwood Olympics

For I love to read week, Linwood took on the theme of the Olympics.   To kick off I love to read each class could earn a medal if they read for a certain amount of time each day.  We have been reading a lot during daily 5 and during story time. We are looking really good so far!!

We also got to make our own mini torches.  First we decorated our mini cup.  Then we got to go to the fire station and add some neat looking fire so our torch really looked real.

The whole school took part in Linwood's own torch run.  The students really thought this was awesome because they got to run in the halls.  It was great to see all the smiles and hear all the clapping and cheering!  Way to go Linwood!

Today was the big day of Olympic events. The day started with the morning class going to the Biathlon.  The students had to run down the hall, lay on their stomachs and try to get a bean bag into a bucket.  If they missed, they had to do 5 sit ups.  Once they got their bean bag in the bucket, they raced to give the next person a turn.

Next we went to Olympic QR codes.  Each student had their own iPad and used an app called          "i-nigma" to scan a code.  Once they scanned a code, they found an answer to a question or got to watch a little video clip of the olympic games.

The third station was Speed skating in the auditorium.  The students put scarves under their shoes so they could "skate" across the polished floor really fast.

The last event for the morning kids was floor hockey in the gym.

Everyone did such a great job. And it wouldn't be the Olympics without our athletes getting a medal for all their hard work!

The afternoon started off with a yummy treat and watched some stories on the smart board.  We all loved our McDonalds parfait. Yum!

Then we headed upstairs for a "rigorous" Boot Camp.  We had to complete 10 different exercises. The students were very tired by the end, but again, did a great job.  Even Mr. Friesen got in on the action.

We then went to the hallway to do our version of skeleton.  We thought the name of the exercise was funny and even more funny because Mrs. Rogala but two little orange halloween skeletons on the scooters.  We had to have teams again and race our scooters down the hall to the next person.  It was hard to get a good pictures because the kids were moving so fast.

The last station of the day was the medal making centre.  We really liked writing the words and adding stickers of  all kinds to make are medals really special.
