We used the tiny muscles in our hands to help us create Beaded Hearts. We put different beads onto pipe cleaners and then twisted the beaded pipe cleaners into the shape of a heart. It took a lot of time and concentration, but the results are worth it. We also learned that it is important to keep developing our fine motor muscles to help are hands get stronger. Stronger fine motor muscles help build stamina for writing tasks!

We practised our scissor skills and traced and cut out Heart Animals. Everyone picked an animal, counted the hearts, collected the needed materials and followed the picture directions. We really had to pay close attention to the directions, concentrate, and use our problem solving skills when creating the animals. After all the cutting and glueing were done, we labeled our animals and hung them in the hallway for everyone to enjoy.
With Valentine's Day coming, we started our paper inquiry and made 3-D Paper Hearts out of different kinds of paper. To make our hearts, we used our finger muscles again and tore paper into little pieces. We put the little pieces of paper into containers and then added the "magic!" (Also known as water) After about 20 minutes, the paper had absorbed the water, turning it into paper pulp. With our hands, we put the pulp into little heart molds and squeezed out all the extra water. Once the mold was tightly packed, we turned it over and popped out a heart!
As we got closer to Valentine's Day, the excitement grew and grew in the classroom! We practised writing about the things we love and we made Love Monster Valentine holders. When Valentine's Day day arrived, we sang, danced, played games, ate yummy snacks and delivered our Valentine cards.
After seeing how happy everyone was to give and receive cards on Valentine's Day, we were inspired to spread the love. We were given a kindness challenge to make 100 people smile on 100 day.
As a class, we came up with ideas of what to write on the hearts. Then we got to work folding, cutting, writing and decorating 100 hearts to be hand delivered on 100 day!
On the 100th Day of Kindergarten...
We counted objects into 10 groups of 10 to make 100.
We had to dress like we were 100 years old!
We "raced" down the hallway.
We completed our challenge and made 100 people smile!
We made a healthy snack that reminded us that if we want to live to be 100, we need to take care of our bodies by eating good food!
100 Day Math Challenge: How many licks will it take to get to the middle of the Tootsie Pop.
And to top off a fantastic day, we shared our bucket lists of things we want to do before we turn 100.
