Elmer the Elephant

This week was ELMER week.  We love Elmer!  He is a patchwork elephant who is a good friend, likes to play jokes and is really cute. Miss Dowd read us lots of different Elmer stories and we did lots of Elmer activities all week.  Here are some of the things we did.

At centers we wrote something we liked about Elmer and then drew a picture.   

We got to play an Elmer board game with Mrs. L and fill in the squares on Elmer.

We also got to make a sponge painted Elmer face out of two paper plates and one trunk. It was messy but fun!

With the help of our grade4/5 computer buddies, we made Elmer pictures in Kidpix.

We even acted out the story.  We are super good actors!  Here are the morning kids.

Slideshow design made with Smilebox Since we have been reading so many different Elmer stories, we made a list of all the words that we could think of that described Elmer.  Then we put the list of words into a special website called Tagxedo. We made our very own elephant out of words.

A Special E-mail

Today we got a very special e-mail sent to us from Miss Sawrenko.   She is in Thailand and is teaching grade 2.  She updated us on all her adventures. The kindergartens were very excited to hear from her and were really amazed by her pictures.

Animal hospital

Our dramatic play center has transformed into a Kindergarten Animal Hospital.  We worked together to help set up cages for the animals, a shelf to put all the medicine on and then we sorted all the important tools that might be used.  We have a table to bandage all the animals on and even have costumes to dress up in. The best part was that we got to bring in our own animals to take care of.

Camera Fun

This week we got to use cameras and take pictures of our learning.  Our first camera job was to take a jungle picture.  We had to come up with an idea of where to put little toy jungle animals and then everyone got to take their own picture.  Some of us used a book page as a background, or the sand table, the stairs, the blocks at block center and some of us even drew a background on paper.  When the pictures were printed out, we wrote a number story.

Then we had a chance to explore the classroom with the cameras. Miss Dowd said to take pictures of our learning.  It was very interesting to see what everyone took pictures off.

Giraffes

This week we have been learning all about Giraffes. We started by reading the story Giraffes Can't Dance.  Then we created some art inspired by the illustrations in the book.  Miss Dowd taught us all how to draw a dancing giraffe and then we painted a night background.

Then we wrote about what the problem and the solution was in the story.

As a class we came up with lots of words that describe giraffes. We used the words and wrote our own giraffes poems.

With the help of our grade 4/5 buddies we created a Giraffe Fact Page in Comic Life.
