One of the best ways to learn is to "look closely" and observe the world around us. To set the stage, and to get us thinking about really looking carefully, we were asked to find some interesting leaves and bring them to school. At Discovery, we were challenged to sketch the different leaves. We found that using a magnify glass really helped us focus on the fine details.

Then, with "camera's" in hand, we went on our first community walk and "looked closely" at our environment. We made sure to take lots of pictures to help us remember what we saw.
| We saw geese in a field |
| We noticed different signs |
| We even found a super cool mirror... |
| We noticed a Garbage Truck... |
| And had to get close to really get a good look! |
After practising looking closely, we were ready to go outside again and sketch a tree. We will be watching this tree over the course of the year to help us learn about changes in our environment.
The following day, we used what observed and drew more trees. To add some interesting leaves, we used different materials (Q-tips, leaves and pumpkins) and experimented with printmaking.
