Pumpkin Potions

If you happened to be passing by the kindergarten room this week, you may have noticed some interesting smells coming from our classroom.  And if you were to come in to investigate, you would have seen some magic happening right in front of your eyes!

After our sinking and floating experiment was over, it was suggested that we use the bucket as a giant cauldron so we could stir and mix up some magic potions. Everyone loved this idea and couldn't wait to make some halloween potions.

When we entered our classroom the following day, we saw that there was a Pumpkin Potion station!!  There were so many questions... "What are those?" "Where did you get the bottles?"  "Can we eat them?" "Why are there skulls on them?" "Can we play with them?"

Our excitement grew with every question?

Before we got to use the "real" potion making ingredients, we made up a few potions together as a class. We counted out eye balls, rats, spiders, etc and added them to the pot! We stirred and mixed and then everyone got a chance to smell our concoction.  We even served our potion to our friends making sure to use our manners.

Then the real fun began!  First, we had to clean out all the seeds from our little pumpkins so we would have room for all the magic ingredients.

We had to use the little muscles in our hands to twist off the lids and make sure to put them right back on so the magic wouldn't escape. We also had to pump and squirt some bottles and scoop and stir our potions in the pumpkins.

As we were making our potions, we made sure to smell each container.  Some smells were awful and some were super yummy!

Then came time to add the most "Dangerous" ingredient....SNAKE VENOM!!!  We used eye droppers and dripped the "Venom" (vinegar)  into our little pumpkins.  When the "Venom" touched the white powder (baking soda)  our potions began to BUBBLE!!!

We made MAGIC Potions!
