Our Recipe for Peace

Kindergarten is a time for growing and learning. We learn to wonder and share. We learn to play and to ask questions. We learn to listen and to be a good friend. We learn to be respectful and how to solve problems independently. All this learning is hard work, and sometimes, it takes a lot of time and practise to figure everything out.

Since our very first day of school, we have been learning how to be a good friend. We have read lots of books about friendship and have had many good conversations at team meetings to help us remember what being a friend should look, feel and sound like.

As a class, we are learning that our friends are not always going to agree with everything we do or say. Sometimes, our friends have become frustrated and have said mean things, teased, hit, grabbed  and even spit at us. We don't like feeling hurt and sad. We want to feel safe and loved.

With talks of peace, poppies and remembrance day, we have really been focusing on what to do when you are faced with a problem.  On our journey to have a peaceful classroom filled with good friends, we created a wreath and painted poppies as a symbol of peace.

To help us make a personal connection to peace and remembrance day, we brainstormed words about what peace meant to each of us.  We used these words as the ingredients to our very own special recipe for peace. As a fun way to share our learning, we worked together and created our very own cooking show....Cookin' with Kinders.
