Mat Man and Families

This week we were introduced to a funny little character named Mat Man.  Mat Man is from the Handwriting Without Tears program and teaches body awareness, sharing, building, drawing and pre-writing skills.  We learned that Mat Man is made with lines and curves just like all the letters in the alphabet.

To make Mat Man, we sat in a circle, listened to the song and watched Mat Man come together piece by piece.  Then we worked together as a group to build him again.  We also made him on the SmartBoard and practised drawing him on whiteboards.

  We have also started to talk about what makes each of us special.  One of the things that makes us special is our families.  As a class, we shared who and how many people we have in our families.  We learned that some families are big and some are small, but they are all special.  And best of all, we love them!
