Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

This week we read the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom as a fun and musical way to begin learning the letters of the alphabet. We have become very interested in letters and are making lots of connections.  We especially like when we see letters that are in our names.

After reading the story, we created our own Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees.  We had to listen carefully as Ms. Dowd showed us all the steps.  We had to write our names, use bingo dabbers, draw and cut out shapes, glue and add stickers to make our trees.  Everyone did a great job!

The Afternoon Class

We used our fine motor skills to put beads onto a wire and then shaped the wire into the letter at the beginning of our names.  All the beaded letters are hanging on the tree in our classroom.

Making numbers and coconuts out of playdoh to help develop our fine motor skills
We also got to EAT the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree! We had to listen carefully and count out the correct number of items to make our tree.  We used 2 cookies, 4 apple slices, 3 grapes and 10 alphabet cereal pieces.  Learning numbers and counting is so much more fun when you get to eat your "have to job" at the end!
