This week we used the leaves we collected and brought to school to do all sorts of learning activities. During Group Time, we have been learning to sort and pattern on the SmartBoard. We practiced our learning and sorted, patterned and then put our leaves in order from biggest to smallest.
As we were sorting and patterning, we started to notice interesting things about the leaves. Each of us picked an interesting leaf and looked closely at it. We tried our best to draw our leaf with all the details we could see.
We used our leaves to explore three different art techniques. First, we made leaf rubbings with crayons. Everyone thought it was awesome how the leaf magically showed up on the paper!
Then we experimented with watercolours and painted around the edges of the leaves. When we removed the leaves, we were left with a negative space in the shape of the leaf.
The last way we used our leaves was to make a print with them. We rolled paint onto the leaf with a brayer and then stamped the leaf onto our paper.
We also went outside and adopted a tree that we are going to watch change over the year. We looked closely again and sketched what we saw.
