Instagram

You may have noticed that our blog has a new feature on the side panel.  We now have our own Instagram accounts!  Instagram is a photo sharing app that you can have on your iPhone or iPad. Students get to take photos, write about them, and then share them with other classes and family members.

Each day a student is chosen to be the "Instagramer" of the day.  (This has become a very highly regarded job in our classroom)

When you are the "Instagramer"  you have to follow three very important rules.

1 - Be Interesting -  We know that our viewers don't want to see 30 photos of the same thing like lego creations or something of the sort.  We want our viewers to know how great our classroom is and that we are doing some great learning.

2 - Tell What is Happening -  We want to make sure the our viewers know what and why we are taking photos.  This also lets the students practise their writing skills.  If the students writing is hard to read,   I will write their message beside it in brackets.

3 - Stuff not People - Because our photos will be viewed by other people, we want to make sure that a name never goes with a face. It is important that we are safe and responsible digital citizens.  Our rule of thumb is that we don't take pictures of our friends faces. We can take a photos of them doing an activity, but never their face.

Before the students can post their photos, they know that I have to see them first.  That way I can ensure that they have followed all the rules.

As a class we will be looking at our Instagram feed on our Smartboard. Together we will read the comments that our classmates write as well as read the comments from other classes and family members.

I hope that you will follow us on Instagram and see all the wonderful pictures that the kindergarten students are taking!
