After we read a variety of stories, we came up with some words that would describe him. We thought of words like silly, patchwork, brave, friendly, funny, etc. We then got creative and wrote our own Elmer poems. You can hear us read our poems and see our writing and pictures here.

We also created a mixed media art piece inspired by Elmer. First we had to use pastels to draw the background. We looked at all of the pictures in the stories to get ideas of what we should draw.
Then we sculpted an elephant out of model magic. We put a little grey paint in the model magic and squished it up. The model magic turned a light shade of grey like an elephant. Then we created our elephant one step at a time. Elephants are not as easy to make as one might think!
The final step was to make a patchwork border. This was super messy, but fun.
After the paint dried, we hot glued our elephants onto the paper. Next time we will make our elephants right on the background. It was a learning process for everyone!

I would like to tell all you girls and boys how much I enjoyed all your hard work on your Elmer pictures and sculptures. I also love Elmer books and could tell you really paid attention to the story and details to the pictures. from Ms.Dowds Mom
