Today we started our investigation of trees and leaves. First we went out into our school yard and picked a great big tree that we wanted to watch change over the different seasons. Then we took a really good look. We talked about all the different parts we could see. (and some we couldn't) We wanted to make sure we were drawing what we saw and not what we thought a tree looked like. (That is what scientists and good artists do!)
After we sketched our trees, we went inside and tried to make some leaf rubbings. Some students said they saw this before and even tried it before themselves. Others said it was very tricky. Everyone thought it was magic how the leaves showed up on the paper.
